Hubert Gonzales

Sergeant Hubert Gonzales, born April 13th, 1986, served in the Marine Corps for seven years as an Infantryman. He was medically retired due to the wounds that he received while conducting combat operations in Sangin, Afghanistan.

After he graduated from high school in San Diego, California. He enlisted in the Marine Corps October of 2005 as a Rifleman. He was assigned to 2nd BN 4th Marines upon his completion of infantry school. He deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2006-2007. In 2008, he deployed with 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit and served as a 911 force in Southeast Asia. In 2009, he was deployed with 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit and served, as a 911 force in CENTCOM’s area of responsibility. In 2010, Hubert Gonzales was re-assigned to 1st BN 5th Marines where he deployed to Afghanistan in 2011 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

On March 31, 2011, Sergeant Hubert Gonzales was leading his squad on a dismounted patrol in Sangin, Afghanistan.  Where he stepped on an IED (Improvised Explosive Device), which fractured his left ankle from the blast and injured his left shoulder. He was MEDEVAC back to San Diego Naval Hospital where he underwent multiple surgeries for his left ankle.

On February 2013, Sergeant Hubert Gonzales was medically retired from the United States Marine Corps. He moved from San Diego, California to Schertz, Texas where he is currently residing with his two young daughters and his wife.

On January 23, 2015, after being in pain for more three and a half years. Sergeant Hubert Gonzales had another surgery at Broke Army Medical Center for an amputation of his left foot. He made the decision to amputate in order to have a better quality of life.

In his spare time he enjoys playing golf with his friends, target shooting, cycling, and spending time with his family.

His Awards and decorations are Purple Heart, Navy Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Navy Unit Citation Award, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary, (4) Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, and ISAF NATO Medal. Rifle Expert 3rd award.
